Project hope

Bringing Messages of Hope & Love to Families

By Wendy Tan

In 2020 Cornerstone Community Services launched Project Hope to help needy families through financial assistance and encouragement. Wendy Tan shares with us more about this initiative.

2020 has been an eventful year with the emergence of COVID-19 and its global negative impact and repercussion on everyone. Many less privileged families in our society have been badly hit by the pandemic and are struggling to make ends meet. To help families ride through this tough period, Cornerstone Community Services (CCS) launched “Project Hope” in April to offer practical financial assistance and spread messages of hope and encouragement to the low-income families in our community. Staff, donors and volunteers showed their support and love by making donations and penning personal messages on customised “Project Hope” postcards to send to the families.

Plush Toys for Project Hope
Prior to the circuit breaker in April, the CCS team also took the opportunity to facilitate an intergenerational bonding session between our student beneficiaries and seniors from CSC to create plush toys to raise funds under “Project Hope” initiative during year end. It was heart-warming and inspiring to see their collaborative effort to help the needy families despite the limited resources they have.

Fundraising for Students & Cornerstone Senior Centre

In the subsequent months of June and October, CCS launched a series of online “Project Hope” fundraising campaigns to champion for various causes such as helping primary and secondary students with their school allowance, and raising funds for Cornerstone Senior Centre (CSC) so that we can continue to keep the seniors engaged physically and emotionally with healthy exercise sessions and meaningful activities.

Collaboration with Micron Technology
In November, CCS was appointed as one of the charity partners by Micron Technology. Over 1,855 Christmas gift pack were curated by CCS and sold to staff at Micron. A two-day bazaar was also organised at their three premises to showcase and sell handmade crafts and accessories for fundraising purpose. We were impressed and touched with our CSC seniors and volunteers who dedicated their two months of time and effort to pack the orders for the Christmas gift and handmade the items for the bazaar.

It has been a challenging and difficult year for everybody, but the CCS team is very thankful and encouraged to see the community coming together to donate and support “Project Hope” in whatever ways they can to help the less fortunate people. We look forward to a better and fruitful year to come in 2021!
